In July 2012 Nina was awarded with the title of
“Artist Of The Year 2012 by Pori Jazz Festival
where she also performed several times. In
August 24th the band will publish their first
record together and perform in various events
around Finland. "Flying Solo" is Nina's debut album which includes eight original songs and one jazz standard. In Nina’s compositions you can mostly hear the American jazz tradition from 50s and 60s combined with contemporary sound and influences from other musical genres, mostly
soul and R&B. Compositions are easily
approachable, melodic and rhythmicly interesting. The record is a summary of past four
years in Nina's life both musically and personally. Emphasis is also on strong lyrics that reflect Nina's own experiences of love and life in general.
Nina’s strengths as a singer is her unique sound and brilliant voice technique. She has a strikingly
deep, dark and colourful voice, while her phrasing is sure and rhythmically precise. Improvising and performing comes naturally to her.
