Pianist, composer and arranger Göran Strandberg has worked professionally since 1970. He was part of bass player Red Mitchell´s group Communication for many years. Göran was awarded the prestigious Jan Johansson scholarship for 1978. Göran has played or recorded with among others: Lee Konitz, Dexter Gordon, Art Farmer, Helen Merril, Joe Newman, Thad Jones and Clark Terry. Here you´ll find him paying tribute to the great Thelonius Monk. His loving versions of this American genius and master’s compositions provides you with new angles and dimensions to the music. Göran Strandberg Nonet plays the timeless music of Thelonius Monk and Monk’s Mood is Göran’s 10th album in his own name. This album lies somewhere between his small band – and his big band writing, and has both an intimate and a full ensemble sound with a lot of space for the soloists’ performances to shine through.
